4.8 Does each non-time-based media have, if necessary, an alternative (excluding special cases)?

Official methodology to test criterion 4.8

Test 1 (4.8.1)

  1. Find all non-time-based media in the document.
  2. For each non-time-based media, check that a clearly identifiable adjacent link or button
    • either contains the address (url) of a page containing an alternative;
    • or provides access to an alternative on the page.
  3. If this is the case for each non-time-based media, the test is validated.

Test 2 (4.8.2)

  1. Find the non-time-based media associated with an alternative in the document.
  2. For each non-time-based media, check that
    • the page referenced by the adjacent link or button is accessible;
    • the alternative on the page, referenced by the adjacent link or button, is accessible.
  3. If this is the case for each non-time-based media, the test is validated.
