Official methodology to test criterion 4.11
Test 1 (4.11.1)
- Find the time-based media in the document.
- For each time-based media, check that the mandatory viewing control functions are present:
- at least: play, pause or stop;
- if the media has sound, it must have a sound on/off function;
- if the media has subtitles or captions, it must have a function for controlling the appearance/disappearance of subtitles or captions;
- if the media has audio description, it must have a function for controlling the appearance/disappearance of the audio description.
- If this is the case for each time-based media, the test is validated.
Test 2 (4.11.2)
- Find the time-based media with control features in the document.
- For each time-based media, check that
- either the feature is accessible via the keyboard and any pointing device;
- or a feature accessible via the keyboard and any pointing device enabling the same action to be performed is present on the page.
- If this is the case for each time-based media, the test is validated.
Test 3 (4.11.3)
- Find the time-based media with control functions in the document.
- For each time-based media, check that:
- either the functionality can be activated using the keyboard and any pointing device;
- or the page contains a function that can be activated using the keyboard and any pointing device to perform the same action.
- If this is the case for each time-based media, the test is validated.
