6.1 On each screen, are texts rendered by assistive technologies in the main language of the screen?

Official methodology to test criterion 6.1

Test 1 (6.1)

iOS
  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Speech and activate the "Detect languages" setting.
  2. Activate the screen reader and browse through all the elements on the screen.
  3. Check that the text is rendered in the main language of the screen.
  4. If this is the case, the criterion is validated.
Android
  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack > Settings > Text-to-Speech Settings (depending on the platform version, the path may be different):
    • Check that the "Preferred engine" setting is "Google Text-to-Speech";
    • Activate the text-to-speech settings (button to the right of "Preferred engine") and check that the "Language detection" setting is "Aggressive".
  2. Activate the screen reader and browse through all the elements on the screen.
  3. Check that the text is rendered in the main language of the screen.
  4. If this is the case, the criterion is validated.
